Sahlab - Middle Eastern Milk Pudding

A delicious Middle Eastern Milk Pudding My beautiful mum grew up in Amman, Jordan, and taught me this traditional Middle Eastern Recipe that I’m very excited to share with you all. It was one of my favourite treats growing up and one of the things I constantly craved while pregnant with Harper. It is a silky smooth warm and comforting milk pudding that works well as a dessert or an afternoon snack. It takes less than 10 mins to make and I would love for you to try it and share in the deliciousness that is Middle Eastern food!

Serves: 1 Ready in: 10 mins Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

  • 2 tsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp orange flower water (if unavailable replace with 1 tsp vanilla essence) Toppings (these are my favourite part)

  • Coconut flakes

  • Cinnamon

Method Step 1. Combine milk, cornstarch, sugar, and orange flower water in a small pot and stir until smooth. Once there are no lumps and the cornstarch has been completely dissolved turn to a medium heat and bring to boil while stirring or until thick and creamy.

Step 2. Serve hot in mugs and top with coconut flakes and cinnamon.See below of additional topping suggestions

Notes: You must dissolve the cornstarch in the milk while it’s cool, otherwise, it will make the pudding lumpy if added while the milk is already warm

Additional toppings I enjoy include crushed pistachios or walnuts, but you could really use anything you like x
