Budget Beef Pasta Bake

A comforting, cheesy family beef pasta bake made with just 6 core ingredients and pantry staples. This easy weeknight dinner is perfect for busy families, meal prep, and anyone looking for a cheap dinner idea that kids actually eat. Simple, hearty, and made to stretch the budget without sacrificing flavour. Cost per serve: approx. $4.50 - $5.20 based on current Sydney prices!

Ingredients

  • Olive oil

  • 500g beef mince (high protein, budget-friendly)

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • Salt & pepper, to taste

  • 700g Italian herbs passata

  • 1 250g cream cheese

  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (adds fibre + nutrients, also optional)

  • 400g pasta spirals (or any short pasta)

  • 1–1.5 cups shredded tasty or mozzarella cheese 


Method

Step 1. Cook pasta according to packet instructions. Drain and set aside.


Step 2. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add beef mince and cook for 4–5 minutes until browned, breaking it up as it cooks.


Step 3. Add paprika, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.


Step 4 Pour in passata and add cream cheese. Stir until smooth, creamy, and fully combined.


Step 5. Mix through frozen vegetables and heat until softened.


Step 6. Combine sauce with cooked pasta and stir well.


Step 7. Transfer to a baking dish, top with shredded cheese, and bake for 5–7 minutes until melted, golden, and bubbling.


Step 8. Serve hot for the ultimate cheesy beef pasta bake comfort meal.
